Mid-20th Century American Mahogany Serpentine Chest-on-Chest
Description
A mahogany chest-on-chest in the Georgian Chippendale style, featuring a pronounced serpentine front. The piece is built in two sections. The upper section contains six drawers, configured as three small top drawers over two half-width drawers and one full-width drawer. The lower section contains four additional full-width drawers. The drawer fronts feature flame mahogany veneers. Drawer construction includes machine-cut dovetail joints, indicating mid-20th century production. Secondary woods used for the drawer interiors and back panels appear to be pine and poplar. The case is supported by bracket feet. Hardware consists of brass bail handles with octagonal backplates and small brass ring pulls on the uppermost drawers. The design and construction are characteristic of high-quality mid-century American furniture manufacturers such as Drexel Heritage or Thomasville. Good Condition.
