Two Antique New England Advertising Shipping Crates including Rexall Remedies and J. H. Wright
Description
This lot features two wooden shipping crates of different sizes, both originating from New England and featuring original stenciled markings. The larger crate is constructed from pine planks with vertical exterior corner supports and a hinged lid. The front end panel is stenciled in black ink with the text ASSORTED Rexall REMEDIES FROM UNITED DRUG CO. BOSTON, MASS. with the company logo in a script typeface. An ornate brass bail handle featuring a foliate mask design is mounted to this panel . The lid is attached with two iron strap hinges and bears a faded black stencil reading DOVER NJ . The interior end panels repeat the exterior branding and include the stenciled warning IT’S GLASS DON’T BREAK IT. The crate has been modified for storage with the addition of four metal swivel casters secured to the base. The second item is a smaller, weathered pine crate reinforced with iron strapping at the vertical corners. The front panel is stenciled in black with the number 800 above J. H. WRIGHT KEENE, N. H. This regional stencil is repeated on the rear and side panels. The sides feature two rectangular cut-out handles for lifting. The interior of the crate shows dark staining. Largest measures 18 inches tall by 27 inches long. All invoices must be paid within 24 hours of the sale.
